Before writing, read Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants" and consider this (maybe apocryphal) story about how he came to write it.
Hemingway and another writer were having a discussion about writing, specifically, about whether you could tell a story where most of the what was going on, the heart of the story, was under the surface. They made a bet, and Hemingway produced "Hills Like White Elephants". When his friend read the story, ostensibly Hemingway won the bet.
He later called this his Iceberg theory.
